Batthe Hymm of the Tiger Mothers

I am not sure where did i manage to find out this book , but i guess is from googling the work parenting book.
Even tough , there had been quite a few comment regarding the way how Amy actually handle her kids , but to her is a memory for remembrance.

I mean to my understanding , being a child growing up in a chinese household eventhough my mom is chinese but my dad is not. I found out that it is amazing how we all my sibling grow up to be. My dad is quite a person who give loose to everything and always hope for us to find our ways through our life. But my mother who doesn't expect us to have extremely good grades. But wishes every each of us had an education.

The book is interesting where you could see how Amy a busy mom cope with her 2 children. I even remember reading that everytime they spend time on travelling abroad , she would actually inquire a place for her elder daughter to practice piano . Wherever they are. Everything are so well planned and organize. Somehow i wish i am that kind of mother. Even i am still new , my son is just 19 months . I find out that the ways of teaching. Where her expectation of her children are something to look up to.

I love and would read this book over and over again . Love to it to the max..

journey to Kota Kinabalu

Ethan trip to Kk for a new skim specialist and also for his 1.5 years injection boost

Friday, September 9, 2011

I’ve spend 1.5 years fighting with Ethan eczema , yet til today , he is still prone to flare up on a daily basis. I only started reading and doing research for the past few month and came up a series of ways you could handle your child eczema that I would share.

Caution in feeding your baby

Food that is entering the body of your children especially children that with a allergic situation. Especially for skin disorder ,eating a lot of food that contain EFA, Vitamin A and Vitamin D which help with the growth of skin are important. Food like carrot , broccoli, spinach.

The top 5 culprit such as dairy, wheat, soy , seafood. This had to be given cautiously as they might trigger the eczema . Find out what your child is allergic to is important . Read the Blood test part to find out more.

Supplement and multivitamin

Supplement are important to them .If you could , let them have vitamin C and try to find other substitute that doesn’t contain the allergens. Probiotics are  a recommend supplement for eczema kids. As it would help in strengthen the child immunity.

However always do read the label of the probioctics or supplement to look out if there is any allergic substances that arent's suppose to give to your kids.

H20 the more the better

Water are also important. Remember that because eczema kids body are as fragile as a paper. Everything could be a culprit if the body is not strong enough to fight. Water are important, clean and purified water are needed. I am using alkaline water at home and for ethan, some other introduce diamond and also other water filter. It all depend on individual.

Always remember there is no harm in investing in your kids as that is important to manage his eczema.

Food diary/journal

It is important to create a food diary or journal and keep track what your children are having to know what actually triggers their flare. Some food may take up to 1-2 weeks then it will affect. But some actually flare within the same day or the next 2 hours. I remember feeding Ethan on this cute little chocolate puff and found out he was scratching and flare the whole afternoon.

I am sitll on the journey to put this on my list. As a working mother always

Blood test when and where and why ?

Blood test which are call the CAP RAST Blood Test is to test the top few food allergens, include house dust mite and dander. It could be quite pricey as it depend on the type of thing that you would like to test on.

Skin Protection
Moisturising is important, for cream and lotion it would be a fast absorbing , for longer period of moisturise. Preferable the ointment. As ointment locks in more moisturiser than cream and lotion.

Clothing are important too. Due to ethan eczema scratching is really bad i used to put mitten/socks on him but he know how to pull it off easily. I have spend sometimes looking for other option and i find out scratchmenot and scratchsleeves which help him get through the night.

Shower time
Shower in lukewarm water, water too hot will dry the skin fast, the water temperature warm will be fine. The best if all the skin dry up , better to soak in water and get rid of the dry skin.

Moisturiser at the 1st 3 minute once out of the bath. Pat dry do no rub dry .Wet wrap theraphy is also an important ways to lock in the moisture of the skin of your babies. If you would like to know more please email me as I could provide you the link on

Look out for contact eczema irritant
Skin care wise, look out for the few culprit such as SLS, paraben. and so . Organic Skin care are preferable but yet still is important to read the label. I only find out that ethan clenaser contain SLS after months of bathing him in one.

Laundry /bedding/Clothing

Detergent for laundry is a no no, supermarket those are strictly dangerous. As some kids with contact eczema would flare if they are allergic to chemical. Therefore, to opt for the natural ones/organic one or else get a laundry ball that does not use detergent at all .

Clothing are most important as our babies wear it all time. Remember that , it had to be 100%cotton for clothing as synthetic fiber are harsh on eczema skin condition. During night time , remember to not let your baby too much layer as when he feel hot , he will sweat as well.  I find out a few product that i got online such as scratchmenot. which is a product that i would give a 5 star as it help the scratching. Socks are a bit too harsh on baby. I  have also made a few myself that i would love to share. Email me if you would want one of those.

Enviromental issues  Dust Mite

Always keep the air ventilated, if you are putting your babies in an air condition room, always remember to put a bowl of water or humidifier in your room to prevent the air condiiton drying the babies skin. Also 27 degree of air condition and maybe a level 1-2 speed of fan to get the air ventilated .

Bedding is important as , this is where the babies sleep at all time. Therefore , if you could invest in a anti dust mite matttress cover. i am using the A... that is sold in parkson. It do quite well.

If  your house are using tiles as floor , the mop that you used to clean the floor should be dust free as well as the detergent that you are using should not be containing chemical that are harsh to the skin. It would be advisable to use the organic or non - chemical cleaning. using baking soda to clean the floor is the best.

If you happen to have rug and carpet at home , I know they look pretty and nice on your living room . but beware that those are easily catch dust mite. Always make sure that your kids does not get into contact with rugs and carpet.

Co-Sleeping / Itchfree management

If you could try co-sleep with your baby , he or she need mommy to be there when he scratch or felt unhappy. This is important as he need to be taken care.Always bear in mind that children with eczema suffer from stress as well.

Parents that are having children like mine , do remember to have faith and patient as always. When little kids are scratching , do not ask them not to scratch. They will feel sad and unhappy knowing that even after we said so they will still scrathcing.

.Toy that are furry or other toys had to be clean all the time with wet damp clothes. If you could opt for furry toy you could try to purchase those with organic cotton toy.

All of the above are the most i could do as i am a working mom , always trust your maid and mom . I know it's harsh to let them not to wear their favourite fragrance but do let them know that. Using those could effect your children as well.

Last but not least. Always remember to moisturise moisturise and moisturise all the time.

How to wet Wrap your baby with eczema. My Style.

Ethan wears his scratchmenot and scratchsleeves all day long. However, i always still fear that what if it fell off and he took it off. So in order to be on the safe side, regardless the scratchsleeves is attached . I will also do Wet wrap for his leg because , he loves to scratch whenever is possible. Especially during sleeping time.

My wet wraps style is very simple. My objective is to prevent from Lil E to scratch his leg and also to lock in the moisturiser and keep his skin moisture all night long . This is because we are using air conditioner in the room. Although we have a pretty good humidifier. But yet. I decide to wrap his leg to keep him comfy all through the night.

Pleased be inform that , this was recommended by Lil E paed and also a few research online and study regarding it. I decide to do it my way which was easier and fast too.  The reason of this wrap is to lock in moisture and the first layer on top of the skin is a wet bandage. I will show in the photo below which is self explainable. The first layer of bandage has to be wet not others please use the Tubifast as it is
specialize for wet wrap.

I got my tubifast bandage from my paed. As i am located in Labuan, Malaysia. I am unable to search it in any pharmacies. I did a research and found out that you could purchase in the website below. You could find a big roll from here http://www.theallergyshop.com.au/categories/Wet-Wrap-Products/. I am checking if i have enough budget i ll get the 10 m one. As i am now cleaning and washing the bandage daily. That's my techniques as i have to use up until it worn out then i ll get a new one . But it seem like it's going to soil anytime soon. On the allergy shop they also teaches you how to apply the tubifast but now i am going to teach you how i did mine.

Below are my steps on how to wet wrap simplify version.

Left to right , 1 roll of Cotton Bandage, QV cream , Tubifast Bandage and 1 pair of Socks

First of all prepare all the stuff as above, wondering why i am not using my cetamacrogol ointment anymore. That's before i've been informed that it is out of stock. The whole state is out of stock. Except for the public hospital i didn't call them to find out but most pharmacies in Kota kinabalu, Malaysia are all out of stock. QV cream is the second cream that i would opt for instead of Cetamactrogol.

What i did as usual is leeil  finish his meal , clean up his body , change his clothing and pampers. And i will let him lay down comfy on the bed in the living room. And switch on his favourite cartoon.
First, i apply a layer of moisturiser on his leg .Once it is all done , the tubifast bandage has to be wet beforehand. Once the first layer of moisturiser is applied. Let him wear the Tubifast bandage. The tubifast bandage is to be wear like a socks. Please see as below. This is the dry one , it 's a bit old and nearly worn off. :(  Once he wore it , put another layer of moisturiser on top of the bandage . Usually once that is done a dry bandage have to be put on top of the wet one. Well i only have a pair of tubifast so. I ll just use the normal cotton bandage that is available on all store.

The little old tubifast bandage

You have to wrap the cotton bandage all over the wet bandage so that air will not dry up the wet tubifast bandage. There is no need to tie it . The easiest way is to put it into lil e socks. So that you don't have to tie it or stick it anywhere. The outcome of my wet wrap is as below.

Ethan 's leg Wet Wrap

So the summarize step are below

1.Pepare all the tools as above
2.provide a comfortable and relaxing enviroment prior to wrap
3.Wet the Tubifast bandage keep aside
4.apply the first later of moisturiser
5.Attach the tubifast bandage to your babies/kids leg
6.Put another layer of moisturiser
7.Wrap using bandage on top of the wet tubifast bandage
8.Socks to wear.

I invented this way my own , due to the insufficient tubifast bandage. Good luck on your trial. The below are the outcome of ethan leg after the wrap. You can see there is still red red bump. That's when its all good and he scratch again. keep trying as it help sleeping through the night.

I hate stereotype! yes my kid have eczema ! yes that's a scar burn 3 years ago. : 0

Have you ever had this feeling where you went to a clinic to bring your kids to review. Just because others would stare at your baby and start asking what happen to him , was it because of hot water burn ? he fell down or else people might thinking that you could have spank your kid or being child abuse?Gosh I hate that so so so so so much .

That's happen when i went for a clinic review, having an eczema kids is something a person would never thought what the parent would  endure and thought about. I mean comeon , if you know kindly ask properly. Just like the scar on my hand. A lot of people were fear to ask me what really happen to it. I would just say that. i burn my hand while cooking dumpling 3-4 years ago during christmas day. How awful that would be. But i still have that scar on my hand and whenever i greet someone by shaking hand. They would stare at my hand.

I was playing with my niece the other day , and i saw he had this nice and silky skin, where my lil E used to have when he was 4-8 months. I didn't not compare. Although i ll be touching his rough and dry skin. But the smile that he had make my days. The hug and the never ending clingyness that he had would really brightens my day. Ethan. Mummy loves you
